>From James Stevenson re CBR tyres :
-------------------------------------------------------
Macadams - last forever and are great until you put something else on!
Then suddenly you're confronted by a blinding discovery - they're C@%p!

Pirelli Dragons - Pretty soft and depending on your riding style they will only last about 2,500 miles.
Only really appropriate if you like abusing your footpegs and exhaust on a regular basis.

Michelin Hi-Sports - really good tyres and I did 1000 miles in the Alps on a set last summer.
Excellent grip and lean but only last 3,000 miles - however word of warning, if you're really going for it they will give you very little notice they are going to let go - as I found out to my chagrin at a Thruxton track day in October (one CBR low-sided)

Dunlop 207(standard) - Good tyres and can last up to 5000 miles on one of our CBRs. Great grip but they turn in VERY quick so if you're nervous about leaning over they may not be for you.

BT56 - The best ones as an all-rounder but you knew I was going to say that. I've had 6,000 miles out of a set and because of the dual-compound banding you can stuff it hard into a corner as well as sit on the Autobahn all day at 130.
But (yes there is a but) they do need a little bit more time than most to warm up so take it easy for the first 10 miles.

In conclusion I've had three CBR's and all of these work well but the best set up I've had (and the men at Bridgestone won't technically agree - but it works!) is a standard 56 on the back but a sticky 56SS on the front. It allows later braking, more stability and a really surefooted bike. The CBR dosn't really have enough power to put a SS on the back and because the SS is on the front it has less wear and still lasts 6,000 miles. Remember to heat them up though!
