Day 12

Blazing sunshine under a cloudless sky first thing in Parker.

There is a third bad weather system passing through but we should manage to keep south of it.

Parker dam is the first stop for the day.
There were a couple of harleys there, the riders talking to the 'anti-terrorist' armed guard. As we parked up they wandered over and we shot the breeze. They were of the 'ride miles' rather than the 'polish chrome' school of bikers. (Though one did say that they had avoided one section of road coz it had corners).

London bridge is in Lake Havasu City.
It should look out of place there but nothing quite looks 'in place'.

We decided to ride a bit of 'main street America'.
Route 66
So north to Kingman.

Lunch in yet another Taco Bell then another 10 mile straight. At least the wind was at our backs - but we would be coming back the opposite way soon.

Some Route 66 nut has a shop at Hackberry so we picked up the traditional Route 66 tat before heading back to Kingman.

70 mph on the way (we overtook a train), 40 on the way back.
I can't see a thing through streaming eyes and my neck is agony.

The temperature has dropped seriously since this morning, we've come far enough north to pick up the edge of the bad weather, so rather than stay in Kingman we head for Laughlin.

There is a big bike rally there but it doesn't officially start till tomorrow so we should find somewhere to stay. Route 66 heads over some hills.
Real corners. Lovely twisties. Steep hills. Crap bikes.

In the hills is Oatman, where we had to stop.
It looks like we've gone back 100 years (so the Harleys don't look out of place).
The only concession to modernization is the fact the road is metaled. Donkeys wander down the street (and lie down in the road), swing doors to the saloon where Country and Western is playing.
It looks like the kind of place where you would have an Uncle Dad (or as someone later said "If a couple get divorced in Oatman, are they still brother and sister").

Heading north, you can see Laughlin from a distance.
Just over the border in Nevada the casinos rise out the desert. We pulled into the first Casino (The Riverside) and got a room.

There are hundreds of Harleys here - but we haven't seen any other V-Rod's.

We managed to lose some money on the tables but that's what they're there for I guess.

1838 miles total - 217 miles today.
