Day 12

Without a major weather event, today seems somehow less exciting.

We woke to glorious sunshine.
Desert sunshine, which meant that although the sun was warm, the air was cold.

I had to stop twice in the first 50 miles to clean the inside of my glasses. My eyes were streaming constantly in the cold wind and the drying tears coated the inside of the lenses white!

In Flagstaff we got a signal on the mobile phones for the first time since St. George, 6 days ago. We sat outside a Starbucks and caught up with the world. (apparently the weather in Aberdeenshire has been quite nice - I'm at the same latitude as North Africa - I didn't bloody expect snow here).

We took a side trip 30 miles east to check out the meteor crater.
The grand canyon was made in millions of years.
The crater was made in approximately 10 seconds.
Must have been one hell of a bang.

On the way back to Flagstaff Paul pulled over "I've lost my bum bag - wallet, passport, everything".
U-turn and back to the crater.
When we pulled into the car park, someone called out Paul's name. He had found the bag at the side of the road. Great relief!

Back to Flagstaff again for a late lunch in Taco Bell on Route 66.

We headed south to Sedona for the night.

The road winds down through a canyon with some nice bends.

Paul discovered that the exhaust pipe touches down before the pegs. Crap design or what!
On a couple of corners my feet hit the ground so hard that they were dragged completely off the pegs. I started to lift my feet off the pegs in the corners to avoid an ankle injury.

On the run down through the canyon the bugs came out.
They hurt at speed but at least they keep the sun off bits of my face.

1367 miles total - 259 miles today.
